Hello and welcome to my website

My name is Ben Lowe, I’m 23 and I hope to enjoy a very successful media career.

I’m currently working for MTV News as a Researcher after joining the team in March, initially on a six-month internship.

In the summer I graduated with a MA Broadcast Journalism degree from Staffordshire University and won Student Journalist of the Year at the 2011 Midlands Media Awards.

Before I started at Staffs Uni I worked in London for a year on CBBC Sportsround at Television Centre and then for Tim Lovejoy’s Channelbee at 19 Entertainment.

Stand-Up Student documentary

After my second and final stand-up gig at the world-famous Comedy Store in London

For my MA dissertation, I made a 30-minute documentary on stand-up comedy and learning to be funny. Starring me as the brave/stupid guinea pig, how much could I improve in two gigs?! Click the play button below to watch…

My documentary has been featured on comedy site Chortle and includes interviews I did with some of Britain’s best-loved stand-ups…

Lee Mack, Micky Flanagan, Milton Jones, Jo Brand, Ed Byrne, Tim Vine, Arthur Smith, Hugh Dennis, Rhod Gilbert, Greg Davies, Russell Kane, Russell Howard, Stephen K Amos, Shappi Khorsandi, Johnny Vegas, Lenny Henry, Al Murray, Jack Whitehall and Kevin Bridges.

LeeFest documentary

Me and brother Jack with Barry Hyde (left) and Ross Millard (right) of headliners The Futureheads

For the penultimate module of my MA, I produced a seven-minute documentary about an amazing music festival with an amazing story. LeeFest started in the summer of 2006 in a teenager’s garden while his parents were away on holiday! Click the play button below to watch…

My LeeFest documentary has been featured as a top story on Virtual Festivals and can also be watched on NME.

“I absolutely loved it. It’s brilliantly structured, has lovely edits and great soundbites throughout. The story really is a fabulous one – seeing the film makes you feel happy and made me want to go to LeeFest next year! Nice use of music and really creative cuts. A fab watch – huge congrats!”
Deborah Turness, Editor of ITV News

I also made a seven-minute audio preview of LeeFest 2010. Click the play button below to listen…
